Why I Wrote The Art of Pregnancy

When I found out I was pregnant for the first time, I must confess that I felt infinitely happy but very nervous, because I knew little of the subject of pregnancy. So, I began to research, to investigate and to ask questions, trying to discover the secret of how to be an excellent mother. I wanted to know everything!

Learning about the science of pregnancy helped me a lot, and I am grateful for all the knowledge I gained. But honestly, nothing compared to living the experience of pregnancy firsthand. After all, from the beginning of our existence as human beings, procreation has been part of our nature. That's right! Without the help of doctors or medicine, we knew how to gestate and give birth to our babies.

I quickly concluded that was not all about the science of pregnancy. Of course not! I could not leave aside the spiritual, emotional and romantic part of pregnancy. So I gave flight to my feelings and emotions, and let myself be transformed, body and soul, by my pregnancy. Then, the magic happened . . . my philosophy of pregnancy emerged, full of love and romance, inviting me not to wait until my baby is born to start my relationship with him.

Today, we have allowed the beauty of pregnancy to rest solely upon medicine. Not finding in any book the spiritual, emotional and romantic aspect of pregnancy, I ask you: is it that romance has been lost in so much science? Sadly, I would say yes.

I, who already lived this divine moment, know very well what we women desire to know, and what by necessity we should learn about pregnancy. It is true that being pregnant is wonderful. But it is also true that a million questions emerge. There are so many topics we would love to know more of, both about ourselves and about our babies in gestation. And most importantly, I know what it means for us to have the joy of motherhood.

For this reason, I gave myself the task of writing The Art of Pregnancy. A book that addresses pregnancy as an art (not simply the physical state in which a pregnant woman finds herself), with a touch of my beautiful philosophy of pregnancy, and full of wise advice and useful tips to achieve the most extraordinary and subtle pregnancy.
